Avant Garde

January 1968 to the Summer of 1971 (the age of aquarious and the sexual revolution being in full affect at this time apparently), Ralph Ginzburgs magazine Avant Garde. I would have liked to be about when you could buy this magazine off the shelf. Herb Lubalin was director for a bit and he had a load of illustrators put some pictures in innit. This ones from Tom Wesselman called seascape. 99 with flake and a massive set of wangers. Big wig. September 1966 'The Love Pageant Rally', 1967 Owsley Stanleys, 'white lightning' microdot induced 'Human be-in' and 'The Summer of Love'. The revolution of the mind sponsored by ABC media and forth comes the now clichéd psychedelia poster artists we love or loath. If it wasn't for Albert Hoffmann synthesizing psilocybin and Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert being sacked from Harvard and the musical revolution that ensued, where might graphics and this wonderful cultural messiness be today.
